The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has disclosed plans to kick off “Operation Light Up and Secure Anambra South” in the remaining six Local Government Areas of the Senatorial District.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah made the disclosure in a ‘powerful and insightful’ statement made available to News Band on Monday, August 28.

Speaking, the senator said the move is a way of compensating Ndi Anambra South for voting him a second timed as their representative.

He said: “Ndi Anambra South has paid the price of security through their votes and it is my turn to give back to the people.”

He noted that he is committed to serving the people as the ‘Operation Light Up and Secure Anambra South Project’ is set to launch in the remaining 6 local government areas of the district.

It could be recalled that the pilot scheme of Operation Light Up and Secure Anambra South was initiated in Nnewi North LGA which has tremendously reduced crime in the industrial hub of Anambra State.

In consolidation of the successful execution of the scheme, Senator Ubah announced the commencement of the second batch in Aguata, Orumba North, Orumba South, Ihiala and Ekwusigo local government areas.

The scheme will be facilitated with the following:

  • Installation Of Solar Powered CCTV cameras across Anambra South
  • Deployment of walkie talkies across Anambra South
  • Deployment of network jamming and tracking devices across Anambra South
  • Deployment of traffic blockade beams across the entry and exit points of major roads across the local government areas
  • Deployment of multiple patrol vehicles and motorcycles across the various local government areas of Anambra South
  • Recruitment, training, mobilization and deployment of local security agents In every community in all the local government areas
  • Deployment of emergency response and rescue squad per local government area with end to end secured toll free call lines, and,
  • Installation of data and media control center per local government.

Operation Secure Anambra South was launched a few months ago to checkmate the deadly security challenges that bedeviled the Senatorial District.

The scheme, a brainchild of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, was a direct response to the unfortunate killings, kidnappings and criminalities that ravaged the zone.

Nnewi North local government area was used for the pilot scheme in a strategic attempt to sample diverse response approaches, fine tune the senator’s crime fighting policies and perfect the strategies necessary to secure Anambra South Senatorial District.

The model deployed in Nnewi North pilot scheme proved to be a huge success as crime has been wittled down to a minimum, hence the pledge to deploy and replicate the successful model in the remaining six local government areas.
