In a strong statement at Government House, Port Harcourt, Ijaw National Congress President Benjamin Okaba expressed dismay over President Bola Tinubu’s failure to address the political crisis allegedly caused by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in Rivers State.

Okaba accused Wike of daring the Ijaw people, igniting outrage in the Ijaw nation, and asserted that Tinubu’s silence implied federal government support for Wike’s actions.

Okaba, leading a solidarity march to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, highlighted the Ijaw nation’s frustration with marginalization, emphasizing that they can no longer guarantee the security of oil facilities in the region.

He criticized the lack of Ijaw representation in federal appointments and warned of potential consequences if the government continues to overlook their grievances.

Okaba declared, “A day shall tell whether the Ijaw people are still those who will say a thing and make it come to pass.” The Ijaw leader emphasized that any attempt to undermine Governor Fubara would be met with fierce resistance, stating, “A slap on Governor Fubara is a slap on the entire Ijaw nation. Any attempt to further close up political space is a call for fire.”
