The Ikwerre People’s Congress (IPC) Worldwide, the apex sociopolitical organization of the Ikwerre people, has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Senator John Azuta Mbata and Livingstone Wechie for their recent historic leadership achievements.

In a statement signed by Engr. Stanley Worgu, Secretary-General of IPC Worldwide, the organization celebrated the election and inauguration of Senator John Azuta Mbata as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide. The event, held in Enugu on January 10, 2025, marked a significant moment as Mbata, a distinguished son of Ikwerre extraction and former acting President of the Nigerian Senate, assumes the leadership of the global Igbo community of over 80 million people.

The IPC also congratulated Livingstone Wechie on his inauguration as the President of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Rivers State chapter. Describing him as a “towering patriot and leader,” the organization praised his dedication and urged all stakeholders to support him in his efforts to lead the more than eight million Igbos in Rivers State toward a future of unity and development.

Acknowledging Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s instrumental support in ensuring Senator Mbata’s emergence as the President-General, the IPC called on Ikwerres worldwide to rally around these leaders. They emphasized the need to counteract divisive forces and capitalize on this historic opportunity to advance the collective aspirations of the Ikwerre and Igbo people.

“This is a golden opportunity of a lifetime,” the statement read. “As arguably the largest Igbo group, Ikwerre’s leadership of Ndi-Igbo Worldwide is both historic and profoundly significant. The Ikwerre people across the globe are immensely proud of these achievements.”

The IPC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to fostering unity and progress, urging both riverine and hinterland Igbo communities to collaborate in ensuring a successful tenure for these newly elected leaders.
