Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has downplayed criticisms from opposition members, describing their statements as unserious and politically motivated.

He emphasized that many of those posturing as future election candidates are not genuinely interested in contesting but are seeking recognition, negotiation leverage, or long-term projection.

Speaking while receiving Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe, the lawmaker representing Bende North in the Abia State House of Assembly who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party, Otti expressed confidence in the work his administration is doing across the state.

“We are not distracted by the opposition and their noise. Some of them just want their names on the ballot for recognition, others want to negotiate, and a few are thinking decades ahead, hoping their early noise will earn them future relevance,” Otti said.

He stressed that the real response to the opposition would be seen in the transformative projects under his administration. “I choose to answer with performance. We are delivering on the mandate given to us, and we are fully focused on providing quality governance.”

Governor Otti congratulated Ibekwe on his decision to join the ruling Labour Party, noting that his move was voluntary and not influenced by pressure. He emphasized that his administration prioritizes good governance over party affiliations.

“The Labour Party is inclusive. We do not discriminate based on where anyone is coming from. What matters to us is service to the people,” he said, promising a formal welcome ceremony for the new party member.

In his remarks, Hon. Ibekwe praised Governor Otti’s leadership, describing his achievements as unprecedented. He said the governor’s performance inspired his decision to align with the Labour Party, calling this era the best time for the people of Abia.
