Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed concerns about the 2027 presidential race, stating that his focus is on addressing the immediate suffering of Nigerians.

His comments come in response to a recent statement by Chief Bode George, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), who suggested Atiku should reconsider any plans to run for president in 2027.

Chief George advised Atiku to follow the example of U.S. President Joe Biden, who has stepped aside for younger leadership in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, conveyed his response to Vanguard, emphasizing that Atiku’s priority is not the 2027 election but the current plight of Nigerians.

“We cannot afford to put the cart before the horse,” Ibe said. “Atiku Abubakar’s focus is on the pressing issues of 2024, 2025, and 2026. His primary concern is the dire situation faced by Nigerians due to the ineffective policies of the current administration.”

Ibe further criticized the suggestion to focus on 2027, highlighting that Nigerians are struggling with the adverse effects of the current government’s policies under President Bola Tinubu. He also urged Chief George to address the administration’s policies, which have exacerbated poverty and division in the country, rather than emphasizing future elections.
