The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State on Tuesday recorded a significant political milestone as it held a special stakeholders’ meeting at its State Secretariat in Owerri, attracting party leaders, captains of industry and prominent dignitaries.
The gathering was marked by a major political realignment, with former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, formally presenting new members who defected from the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Obidient Movement into the ADC.
Addressing party faithful, Ihedioha urged members to set aside personal interests and work collectively to build a strong, united and progressive political platform capable of delivering good governance to the people.
He emphasised that unity, discipline and a shared sense of purpose were critical to the growth of the party, insisting that the ADC must remain committed to its founding ideals.
“Only through unity, selflessness and discipline can we build a formidable political party that truly serves the people and delivers quality governance,” Ihedioha said.
Other speakers at the meeting echoed similar sentiments, calling on members to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s vision and values.
Former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, ADC South-East Chairman Chief Born Unachukwu, and the Imo State Chairman of the party, Prof. James Okoroma, stressed the importance of hard work, integrity and dedication in advancing the ADC’s agenda.
They urged members to uphold the party’s core principles and remain resolute in its pursuit of national rebirth and people-centred governance.
The new members, presented by Ihedioha, said their decision to join the ADC was based on what they described as the party’s quality leadership and strong internal democracy.
They accused the Labour Party and the PDP of failing Nigerians, alleging that both parties had aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress and abandoned the welfare of the people.
In a show of unity and confidence in the party’s future, ADC leaders and Local Government Area chapters across Imo State voluntarily contributed over ₦200 million to support the party’s operations and activities.
The meeting ended on an optimistic note, with stakeholders expressing renewed hope, unity and determination to strengthen the ADC and advance its strategic goals in Imo State and beyond.
