In a recent operation, troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the navy, air force, police, and civil defence, made a shocking discovery at the Eastern Security Network (ESN) camp in Umulolo-Umukele Amousu, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.

Acting Deputy Director of the 82 Division, Army Public Relations, Jonah Unuakhalu, revealed that during a raid on the Okigwe forest hideouts, decomposed corpses of police officers were unearthed.

The gruesome scene unfolded as the troops explored the camp, where they stumbled upon scattered uniforms and badges, leading to the identification of the deceased as police officers. Two suspects were apprehended during the operation, and the corpses were subsequently recovered for proper burial.

Unuakhalu detailed the findings, stating, “Several other despicable things, including occultic and acts of cannibalism, were discovered. We destroyed the camp and also the improvised explosive devices discovered at the scene.”

The joint operation also yielded the recovery of rank badges belonging to two policemen who had been kidnapped along the Enugu-Portharcourt road. Among the items confiscated were Biafran currencies, counterfeit US dollar bills, Biafran Liberation Army T-shirts, military kit bags, cables used for IED detonation, and axes, along with various Biafran insignia.

“We arrested two suspects in the process and also recovered some burnt police corpses for proper burial,” Unuakhalu added. The incident highlights the challenges faced by security forces in combating insurgency and criminal activities in the region, shedding light on the unsettling nature of the ESN camp and the heinous acts carried out within its confines.
