The South East Basketball Championship, held in Umuahia, Abia State, culminated with Imo State claiming the title after a series of intense matches across the region.

In the aftermath of the tournament, Coach Victor Ogugua from the triumphant Imo team underscored the necessity of young athletes striking a balance between education and sports for a prosperous future. He accentuated their dedication to nurturing comprehensive basketball careers for their athletes.

“From the inception of this championship, we’ve traversed all the states in the South East. We kicked off in Enugu, moved to Imo and Anambra, and finally wrapped up the tournament in Abia. By divine grace, my team topped the table,” declared Coach Ogugua.

He also revealed that the team will scrutinize their performance and gear up for future challenges.

On the other hand, Oriakhi Osagbovo, the Head Coach of Abia Stars Basketball, extended his gratitude towards Governor Alex Otti, the Sports Commissioner, and the Abia State Sports Director, Mr. Obioma George, for their steadfast support in advancing basketball in the state. Coach Osagbovo delineated their objective of constructing a robust team for Abia.

“Our aim is to establish a formidable team for the state. This has been our focus, and their participation in this competition has been one of our goals since the Governor equipped us with top-notch, international standard equipment.

“We are nurturing both the junior and senior teams in the hope that they will compete in more events and bring honor to Abia state,” he stated.

Coach Osagbovo voiced his confidence that with further training camps and preparation, Abia will shine in forthcoming competitions. He reassured fans that a minor setback wouldn’t quell their spirits.
