The Caretaker Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State, Reverend Haanongon Gideon, along with three others, fell victim to an abduction by unknown gunmen.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 6:30 am on Saturday as they were en route to attend the burial ceremony of Chief Fezaanga Wombo, the paramount ruler of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The abducted individuals include the chairman, his personal assistant Ior Yuhwam, the driver, and a police officer. The incident took place along Anyagba, Tongov, in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, creating an atmosphere of distress and concern within the community.

Council Secretary Jonathan Modi issued a statement confirming the kidnapping, urging the residents of Ukum Local Government to remain calm and law-abiding. He assured the public that measures are actively being taken to secure the freedom of the abducted victims.

“The Ukum Local Government Area Executive Council announces the kidnap of the Council Chairman, Rev. Haanongon Gideon, alongside his PA on Administration, Mr Ior Yuhwam, his driver, and police officer,” stated Modi. “The ugly incident took place this morning, along Anyagba, Tongov, in Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State, around 6:30 am, while on the way to attend the burial of the paramount Ruler of Katsina Ala LG, the Ter Katsina-Ala, Chief Fezaanga Wombo.”

The Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Matthew Abo, also confirmed the abduction, adding, “It’s true he was abducted; I cannot say much now because I am at a funeral in Katsina-Ala.” The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security in the region, and authorities are actively working towards the safe release of the kidnapped individuals.
