China Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, said Tuesday that although all nations have rights to defend themselves, the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict presents a crucial choice between war and peace by relevant actors.

The Chinese Foreign Minister disclosed that Wang shared the view during a phone call with Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, and used the opportunity to call for protection of civilians.

“China is deeply worried about the continued escalation of the conflict and the exacerbation of the situation. All countries have a right to self-defense, but it is important to observe international humanitarian law and protect civilians.

“The pressing task now is to stop the situation from further escalating and causing a more serious humanitarian disaster,” Wang said.

Wang suggested that the only solution to the Palestinian question is to implement a two-state solution and ensure the Palestinian people’s right to subsistence and statehood, and their right to return to their homes.

“China calls for convening a more authoritative, broad-based & effective international peace conference ASAP to realize the early resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel, and to formulate a specific timetable and road map to this end. China will continue to stand on the side of international fairness and justice,” Wang added.

The Chinese Minister took a swipe at the United States’ for deploying military weapons to Israel, saying what the people in Gaza “need the most is security, food, and medicine, not war, weaponry, or ammunition. What the Gaza Strip needs the most are efforts to end the fighting and promote peace, not geopolitical calculations.”

Cohen on Tuesday called on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to act for the immediate release of all the abductees in the Hamas militants’ custody “and to stand by our side in the task of erasing the monsters of Hamas from the face of the earth.” for allegedly committing a serious crime against humanity!

Israel has sustained its war against Hamas militants from Gaza after they infiltrated Southern Israel and killed thousands.

The UN puts the death toll on the Israeli side to over 1400 as of Monday while Gaza health authorities disclosed Tuesday that 5,791 Palestinians have died from Israeli attacks.
