The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight members of the Agunechemba Security Network following their involvement in the assault and public humiliation of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elobor.

Speaking at a press briefing in Awka on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, condemned the operatives’ actions on July 23, during which Elobor was stripped and physically assaulted.

Describing the conduct as “completely outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable,” Emeakayi stressed that the Soludo administration has zero tolerance for abuse of power, brutality, or unprofessional conduct by security personnel.

“Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face immediate dismissal and prosecution,” he stated.

Despite pleas from Elobor’s family and NYSC officials to avoid prosecution in order to protect the identities involved, the state government insisted on a full investigation and accountability, aiming to set a strong example and prevent future abuses.

In addition to dismissing the operatives, the government covered all of the victim’s medical expenses, replaced her damaged personal items including her laptop and phone and issued a public apology to Elobor, her family, the NYSC, and the wider public.

Emeakayi reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to reforming community security operations, emphasizing professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights as core principles.

He concluded that this incident should serve as a critical turning point to reinforce discipline within the Agunechemba Security Network and restore public trust.
