The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a firm security advisory against a proposed political rally organized by supporters of former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

The rally, reportedly planned to mark Obi’s birthday, has raised red flags within the security apparatus over fears of possible violence.

In an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the Command disclosed that it had obtained credible intelligence suggesting the rally, although publicly presented as a peaceful gathering in celebration of Mr. Obi, could be hijacked by criminal elements. These groups, the police warned, may exploit the event to instigate violence and destabilize public peace.

The Command reminded the public that all political rallies and public political gatherings in Kaduna State remain suspended until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally commences the 2025 election season. This suspension, the police emphasized, is aimed at preventing premature political mobilization that could lead to conflict.

Adding to the concern, DSP Hassan pointed out that several political parties have officially scheduled their primary elections on the same date as the proposed rally. These events have been duly communicated to the police and are being coordinated under the required legal protocols. The simultaneous occurrence of such high-stake political activities, the Command noted, poses a significant risk of confrontation, public disorder, and possible clashes between opposing groups.

“In view of these developments, the Command strongly advises the organisers of the planned Peter Obi rally to suspend any gathering or procession,” the statement read. “If they wish to honour their principal, such activities should be conducted in a safe and non-disruptive manner.”

The police further warned that any individual or group found violating the directive could face legal consequences. The Command stated that it would not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law to prevent actions capable of threatening peace and security in the state.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Kaduna State Police Command called on the public to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and stable environment ahead of the upcoming political season.
