Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, in an emotion-laden voice, wept in the 9th Senate valedictory session in Abuja. The senator bemoaned the way and manner in which he was treated, having contributed immensely to the formation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998.
In a viral video on Twitter, the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the Senate accused the Nigerian government of witch-hunting him and sending him to prison unceremoniously after all his contributions to the Nigerian Project. Kalu also reiterated that he was not a thief, as speculated by Nigerians, and that he is a successful businessman employing over 13,000 Nigerians.

Recall that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, in the heat of the 2023 presidential campaigns, had urged politicians of Igbo extraction to step down from the 2023 presidential race and build bridges across the Niger if they must be president. He lambasted those calling for a power shift to the southeast as political neophytes with little knowledge of the Nigerian political system.
Interestingly, having built enough political bridges across the divide, Senator Kalu recently declared his intent to vie for the office of President of the Senate and has been visiting politicians across all the different geopolitical zones of the country. The 10th Senate will be inaugurated on Monday, where Senator Orji Uzor Kalu will square up against the APC-anointed candidate,, Senator Goodwill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom.
