Kemi Badenoch, the Nigerian-British leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, has pledged to implement a “strict numerical cap” on immigration as part of her ambitious reform agenda to tackle rising migration numbers.

Speaking at Westminster on Wednesday, Badenoch unveiled her proposals during a speech and Q&A session, emphasizing the urgent need to address the strain high migration levels place on housing, healthcare, and other essential services.

The newly appointed Conservative leader openly acknowledged past failures by Tory governments to manage immigration effectively, pledging to restore control over the UK’s borders “without fear.”

“Immigration is at a pace too fast to maintain public services,” Badenoch stated. “For decades, the political class has presided over mass migration… The system that replaced free movement is not working.”

She criticized political leaders for downplaying immigration issues and insisted that such complacency must end. Addressing potential legal barriers, Badenoch asserted that the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) would not prevent her government from enacting necessary changes.

A staunch advocate for cultural integration, Badenoch stressed that migrants must embrace British values to strengthen social cohesion. “Without a shared national identity, our country will suffer,” she warned, urging newcomers to adopt the customs and principles that underpin British society.

Badenoch’s remarks reflect her commitment to regaining control of immigration while fostering unity in an increasingly diverse Britain.
