The Kogi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Zango Market in Osara, Adavi Local Government Area, and imposed a ban on roadside truck parking in response to escalating security concerns.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, revealed that intelligence reports tied criminal activities in the area to the market and trucks parked nearby.
“Criminal elements have been using the market as a hideout, often in collaboration with some truck drivers who park along the roadside,” Fanwo stated.
The Commissioner highlighted the grave risks posed to the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, and the surrounding community, emphasizing the need for decisive action.
To ensure compliance, the government has granted market operators and truck drivers a one-week grace period. Governor Ahmed Ododo has directed the Secretary to the State Government to formally notify all stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, for smooth implementation of the order.
Additionally, the state’s Security Adviser has been tasked with supervising security operations in the affected areas throughout and beyond the grace period.
Fanwo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, pledging continued efforts to root out criminal activity.
“Proactive measures will continue to be taken to eradicate crime and uphold law and order in Kogi,” he assured.
He also applauded residents for their vigilance and cooperation in supporting the state’s community-driven security initiatives.
“We deeply appreciate the efforts of citizens in providing timely intelligence, which is invaluable in maintaining security and safety across the state,” Fanwo added.
