In a statement signed by Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, on July 20, 2024, the party addressed a tweet from presidential aide Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

The tweet linked the Labour Party, its national leader Peter Obi, and other notable party figures to the proposed ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest.

The Labour Party refutes this claim, calling it a figment of Onanuga’s imagination. The party emphasized its commitment to peace, urging its followers to always act lawfully, as demonstrated in the aftermath of the last general election. They stated unequivocally that neither Peter Obi nor their supporters are planning any protests.

The statement highlighted that peaceful protests globally are driven by the people, not the opposition. The party reiterated that citizens have the constitutional right to protest against government actions and policies.

The Labour Party criticized the government’s tendency to blame others for Nigeria’s governance issues. They called for the implementation of effective policies and cautioned presidential aides against making incendiary statements that could destabilize the nation.
