History was made today when professor of political economy, Pat Utomi stepped down for Mr. Peter Obi at the on going presidential primary of the Labour Party.

Utomi while addressing delegates, said he was stepping down for a younger aspirant with the capacity to effect the needed change in the Nigerian system.

He said the time of the liberation of Nigeria has commenced with the Labour Party primaries.

Meanwhile, another aspirant, 45-year old Joseph Faduri had earlier made his speech but mounted the podium again to also step down for the former governor of Anambra State.

Obi was elected unopposed early Monday afternoon, May 30, 2022, during the party’s Convention at Orchid Hotel, Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

On Friday last week, Obi joined Labour Party hours after announcing the resignation of his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Anambra born politician said his decision to join LP aligns with the interest of Nigerians across different sectors, adding that he wants to take the country from consumption to production.
