The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra East Local Government Area has raised the alarm over a potential boycott of the upcoming Local Government (LG) elections, scheduled for September 28 in Anambra State.
In a statement released on Friday, Chidi Chinwuba, LP Chairman of Anambra East LGA, and Onyeka Aghadiuno, the party’s Secretary, urged the public to disregard any list of candidates published by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) that includes Labour Party candidates from the area.
The LP leadership clarified that the party has not conducted primaries or authorized any submission of candidates’ names to ANSIEC. They emphasized that any list featuring Labour Party candidates for the election is not legitimate.
Chinwuba and Aghadiuno further called on ANSIEC to remove any individuals falsely claiming to represent the Labour Party in the upcoming elections. They warned of potential legal action if the commission proceeds with publishing such names.
“The Labour Party in Anambra East dissociates itself from the September 28 elections. We urge the public to ignore any list claiming LP candidates as these names did not originate from the party’s legitimate leadership,” the statement read.
