Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, called for immediate and decisive intervention following devastating fires at Ladipo and Owode Onirin markets in Lagos.

The fires, which destroyed goods worth millions of naira, have added to the hardships faced by traders.

Obi emphasized the urgent need for decisive action to prevent such incidents in the future. He extended his thoughts to the affected traders and their families, urging authorities to provide immediate relief and long-term support to help them rebuild.

“We must work together to safeguard lives and livelihoods, ensuring such tragedies do not happen again,” Obi stated.

NN News Media reported that two major fires erupted in Lagos early Tuesday, engulfing Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road. The fires destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

The first blaze ignited around 1 a.m. at Ladipo Market, consuming numerous shops and warehouses stocked with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as flames rapidly spread through the market.
