In a highly populated country like Nigeria, maintaining a clean environment is essential.

It not only enhances the beauty of the surroundings but also significantly reduces the risk of diseases caused by air pollution.

While several states have made notable strides in upholding environmental cleanliness, others, including Lagos and all southwest states, are noticeably absent from the list of top performers.

According to recent assessments, the following states have excelled in maintaining a clean and healthy environment:

1.Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom state has implemented various initiatives to combat environmental pollution. The government organizes regular awareness campaigns to educate the public on the importance of cleanliness. Investments in sanitation facilities have contributed to the state’s consistent ranking as one of the cleanest in Nigeria.

2. Ebonyi

Ebonyi has consistently ranked among the cleanest states due to its rigorous efforts in proper waste disposal and the construction of modern facilities to maintain neatness and avoid environmental hazards.

3. Cross River

4. Enugu

Enugu state initiates various sanitary programs to ensure its environment remains conducive for both residents and visitors. The state provides bins and modern waste infrastructure to reduce pollution and improper waste dumping.

5. Delta

Although some sources list Delta among the cleanest, it is worth noting that not all recent lists include it. However, Delta state has been known for tackling waste through sanitation projects and strict regulations, contributing to its clean environment.

6. Edo

Edo state conducts cleanliness campaigns in both urban and rural communities to educate people on proper garbage disposal and the benefits of living in a neat environment. The state also engages schools in environmental awareness programs.

7. Plateau

Plateau state places a strong emphasis on cleanliness to maintain its natural beauty. The government implements various initiatives to combat waste problems, making Plateau one of the cleanest states in Nigeria.

8. Abuja

As the Federal Capital of Nigeria, Abuja is consistently maintained to be clean. Every administration ensures that sanitation is taken seriously, given the presence of important dignitaries. Residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly, contributing to the city’s cleanliness.

These states serve as models for environmental excellence, demonstrating the importance of prioritizing cleanliness in maintaining a healthy and beautiful environment.
