In a scathing post on his X handle, human rights activist Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo has called out Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), for her selective pursuit of justice.
Omirhobo urged her to address instances of threats against Igbos in Nigeria with the same vigor she is showing in the case of Amaka Patience Sunnberger, who allegedly threatened to poison Yoruba and Bini people in Canada.
Omirhobo’s post, titled “AUNTY DABIRI EREWA, CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME”, criticizes Dabiri-Erewa for her focus on the case of Amaka Patience Sunnberger’s threat to poison Yoruba and Bini people in Canada, while ignoring similar threats made against Igbos in Nigeria.
He challenges Dabiri-Erewa to reveal the identities of those in Nigeria who have threatened to kill their fellow compatriots within 48 hours, and to pursue their prosecution with the same energy she is putting into the Amaka Sunnberger case.
Omirhobo advises Dabiri-Erewa to “keep quiet and stop grandstanding” and allow the Canadian authorities to handle the Amaka Sunnberger case without her biased input. He argues that the Canadian authorities are more than capable of delivering justice in the case and do not need the involvement of a “biased bigot and hypocrite” like Dabiri-Erewa.
In conclusion, Omirhobo calls on Dabiri-Erewa to focus on addressing issues at home, stating that “charity begins at home”
