The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suffered a significant political setback in Sokoto State, following a wave of defections in Gada Local Government Area.

Dozens of party members have left the APC to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing dissatisfaction with the current administration’s performance.

The defectors were formally received on Sunday by Senator Abubakar Gada, a prominent figure in the ADC’s coalition movement. In his address, Senator Gada said the mass defection reflects deepening frustration among Nigerians over widespread insecurity, economic hardship, and the collapse of traditional livelihoods.

“Our communities are under siege,” Gada stated. “Farming the foundation of our economy in Eastern Sokoto has been devastated. What remains is poverty, hunger, and joblessness.”

He emphasized that the growing support for the ADC signals a nationwide demand for political change and accountability.

“Nigerians are losing faith in the APC-led government. They are turning to the ADC as a credible alternative, a movement that offers real hope and solutions,” he added.

This latest defection marks another shift in Sokoto’s political landscape, as opposition parties intensify efforts to build momentum ahead of upcoming elections.
