In a powerful display of unity, residents from all walks of life, including students, youths, civil society organizations, labor unions, and members of the Hausa community, converged on the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, to voice their concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s involvement in the state’s political turmoil.

NN News Media report that with unwavering support for Governor Siminilayi Fubara, the protesters, who began gathering as early as 7 am, sent a clear message to Tinubu: Stay Clear of Rivers’ Affairs!

This extraordinary demonstration follows a recent meeting between Governor Fubara, President Tinubu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other key stakeholders at Aso Villa.

The purpose of the meeting was to resolve the political crisis gripping the state, resulting in a signed agreement that brought about significant changes.

Key resolutions from the meeting included the immediate halt of all impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara initiated by the State House of Assembly.

Additionally, the restoration of remunerations and benefits for all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and staff was mandated. Governor Fubara and his team were also required to withdraw all court cases promptly, refraining from interfering with the State Assembly’s full funding.

Further resolutions outlined the official recognition of Martin Amaewhule’s leadership in the Rivers Assembly, along with the acknowledgment of 27 members who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Assembly was granted the autonomy to choose its meeting location without any interference from the Executive arm of government.

As the protest at the Government House continued to gain momentum, erecting canopies at the entrance, it became a symbol of the collective voice demanding autonomy and a resolution to the political turmoil in Rivers State.
