In the wake of the devastating assaults that unfolded in Plateau State, Nigeria, over the week following Christmas, Pope Francis has joined the chorus of voices calling for divine intervention to quell the escalating violence in the region.

These attacks, orchestrated by Fulani terrorists in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the north-central state, resulted in the tragic loss of over 150 lives. Approximately 17 communities bore witness to the destruction, with countless homes reduced to ashes and properties looted.

Expressing his heartfelt concern and unwavering solidarity on the eve of the New Year, Pope Francis took to the global stage to share a compelling message. He implored citizens worldwide to unite in prayer “for the victims of the severe violence” and earnestly pleaded, “May God free Nigeria from these horrors!”

In addition to extending his prayers for Nigeria, the pontiff also addressed another tragic incident in Liberia, where lives were lost due to a tanker truck explosion. “Let us also pray for those who lost their lives in the explosion of a tanker truck in Liberia,” he added.

Pope Francis’s poignant call for global prayers resonates as a beacon of hope amid the darkness, urging humanity to come together in seeking solace and peace for the afflicted regions.
