Two major fires erupted in Lagos early Tuesday, engulfing Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The first blaze ignited around 1 a.m. at Ladipo Market, consuming numerous shops and warehouses stocked with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as flames rapidly spread through the market.
Firefighters from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa Fire Stations battled the inferno, facing challenges in accessing the site but successfully preventing further devastation to nearby properties.
Meanwhile, another fire broke out at Owode Onirin Market, affecting several shops dealing in metallic materials. Crews from Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations swiftly responded, bringing the situation under control by 5 a.m.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either incident.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of both fires as damping-down operations continue.
