Alwan Hassan, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, has alleged that many president Bola Tinubu’s ministers pay billions of naira to secure appointments and then focus on recovering the money after taking office.
Hassan made the statement while discussing political appointments and the alleged financial costs associated with securing government positions in Nigeria.
According to him, some ministers enter office with the intention of recovering the huge sums they allegedly spent to secure their appointments, raising concerns about the possible impact on public service and accountability.
Hassan stressed that the problem was not limited to the APC, insisting that the practice existed before the party came to power.
He said the situation reflected a broader problem in the country rather than an issue associated with one political party.
The APC campaign council spokesperson maintained that the alleged practice predated the APC, suggesting that the problem had continued across different political administrations.
His comments have drawn attention to questions about the process of appointing public officials, the alleged financial demands surrounding political positions, and the need for accountability in government.
Hassan’s remarks were reported by ARISE News in a post shared on its official X account.
The statement has renewed focus on concerns about the relationship between political appointments, money, and public service in Nigeria, as well as calls for greater transparency in the selection of government officials.
