Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced on Wednesday that a sum of N30 billion has been allocated to the governors of the 26 states in the country.

This is in response to the food scarcity and economic difficulties that Nigerians are currently facing.

Akpabio urged the governors to make good use of the funds, emphasizing that each state is expected to use the money effectively to ensure food availability. The cost of food has recently surged nationwide due to the ongoing economic slump.

Akpabio stated, “Unverified reports suggest that in the past few months, each state government received an additional N30 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), apart from their regular allocation from the federation account, to help alleviate the food situation.”

He expressed his belief that every state government should use the received funds to ensure food availability. It’s worth noting that food shortages have been linked to hoarding by certain individuals and illegal food smuggling into neighboring countries.
