The joint Senate and House of Representatives committee unanimously rejected the judiciary budget, citing concerns about inadequate funding that compromises the independence and effectiveness of the Nigerian Judiciary.

The rejection followed the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi’s appearance, where he disclosed a budget allocation of N5.3 billion for capital expenditure and N8.8 billion for recurrent expenditure in the 2024 budget.

Fagbemi requested additional funding, emphasizing its significance in supporting the current administration’s justice sector roadmap.

In response, the National Assembly joint committee gave the Minister of National Planning and DG budget 24 hours to reappear and address the funding concerns.
