In a press release signed on July 20, 2024, Yunusa Tanko, the spokesman for Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), has strongly denied allegations that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, is behind a planned protest in the country.

Bayo Onanuga, a spokesperson for the Presidency, had accused Obi of orchestrating the protest and stated that Obi should be held responsible for any resulting mayhem.

POMR asserts that these baseless accusations are a deliberate strategy to arrest Obi, restrict his freedom, and silence his advocacy for good governance, which the current administration perceives as a threat to their lavish lifestyle. The statement emphasizes that Peter Obi, known for his calm demeanor and non-violent approach, has never been associated with violence, even when provoked. During his campaign, Obi remained focused on issues without engaging in personal attacks.

The release also reveals that multiple operatives have been deployed to discredit Obi and prevent him from reaching the Nigerian populace, who are eager to hear his perspective on various issues. These individuals, motivated by financial gain, propagate falsehoods to distract Obi and mislead the public, who view him as a beacon of hope amidst the country’s political and economic turmoil.

POMR highlights that the administration has attempted to link Obi to the nation’s challenges, including the fallout from fuel subsidies, rising poverty, inflation, nepotism, and unresolved historical conflicts. These issues, according to POMR, are direct results of the government’s actions and mismanagement.

In conclusion, POMR urges Nigerians to dismiss the presidency’s unfounded allegations and remain steadfast in their support for Peter Obi and the broader movement for a better Nigeria. The Obidient family, both within the country and abroad, continues to pursue their vision of a new Nigeria and will not be deterred by attempts at intimidation or distraction.
