The Labour Party is set to chart a new course for its national leadership following a Supreme Court verdict that dismissed the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee.

In response, Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, and Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State and the LP’s only elected governor, have jointly summoned a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, in Abuja.

The high-level gathering will also feature a stakeholder town hall session designed to engage with critical party figures and chart the way forward. The invitees include the 2023 vice-presidential candidate, current and former senators, House of Representatives members and candidates, gubernatorial aspirants still affiliated with the party, and officials from the NLC/TUC Political Commission.

Also expected are members of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, National Transition Committee (NTC), and the ousted National Working Committee.

This strategic assembly aims to stabilize the party and set the stage for electing new leadership amid internal restructuring.
