Joe Igbokwe, a prominent supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has voiced serious concerns regarding the recent increase in electricity tariffs.
Igbokwe, who has been vocal in his support for the administration’s policies, expressed his frustration with the new tariff structure, which he believes poses a significant threat to small businesses.
In a heartfelt post on Facebook, Igbokwe detailed how the new tariff plan has adversely affected his small office in Surulere. He noted that previously, ₦20,000 would purchase 300 units of electricity, which was sufficient to run his office, equipped with seven air conditioners, for an extended period. However, under the new tariff regime, ₦20,000 now provides only a single day’s worth of electricity.
Describing the situation as dire, Igbokwe has called on President Tinubu to review the new tariff policy urgently. He warned that without intervention, the survival of small businesses like his is at risk.
“I urge President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the new electricity tariff in Nigeria,” Igbokwe implored. “If the government does not act quickly, many businesses, including mine, will face severe challenges. The recent changes have been devastating.”
