The newly elected Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has made a bold administrative change by removing the name of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from the council secretariat’s administrative block.

Ihunwo replaced Wike’s name with that of Senator Dr. Obi Wali, a respected figure in the state.

Ihunwo shared a video documenting the name change and confirmed the decision on social media. In a tweet on Sunday, he wrote: “We have changed Wike’s name in the admin block of Obio Akpor Council and replaced it with the name of SENATOR DR. OBI WALI.”

NN News Media recall that Ihunwo had issued a warning in another tweet, stating: “They have burnt other LGA councils in Rivers State. Whoever burns Obio Akpor Council, his house will be burnt.” He further accused an individual named Woski of orchestrating an attack on the council and called on the police to maintain neutrality in handling local conflicts.

Following local council elections held last Saturday, Ihunwo, along with 22 other local government chairpersons, was sworn in by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The Action Peoples Party (APP) won 22 of the 23 council seats, with the Action Alliance (AA) securing one. However, both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opposed the elections.

Nyesom Wike, a prominent political figure in Rivers State, hails from the Rumuepirikom community in Obio Akpor LGA and previously served as the local council chairman before becoming governor.
