The Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, officially tendered his resignation to President Bola Tinubu on Saturday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Abubakar, a retired Foreign Service officer, had been serving as the NIA chief since 2018, following his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari. Prior to assuming this role, he held the position of Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
With a distinguished career, Abubakar brought vast experience from his work with the United Nations in peacekeeping, mediation, preventive diplomacy, and the promotion of good governance, human rights, and the rule of law.
NN News Media has learned that his resignation was prompted by concerns over a perceived lack of direction within Tinubu’s administration.
