There is palpable tension in Amangwu community in Ohafia local government area of Abia State following the invasion of soldiers of 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia.

It was gathered the invasion was coming at the heels of alleged abduction of a yet-to-be identified soldier said to be in his annual leave in the area.

They were rumours over 10 persons have been allegedly killed while yet-to-be determined indigenes and residents were abducted.

It was further alleged the ravaging soldiers reportedly set ablaze over 50 houses in the community.

Our correspondent gathered a soldier, who was said to be on leave, visited his village, Ikwun in Cross Rivers State but got missing at the border between Amuma Ohafia and Amangwu (about 3 kilometres from Amangwu).

Angered by the report of the missing soldier, troops from the 14 Brigade were reportedly deployed to ransack the community and ensure release of the soldier.
The soldiers were said to have invaded the community unannounced and shot sporadically, forcing natives and non-natives to run for their lives.
The invading soldiers were reported to have arrested many of the natives, some of whom were yet to be seen.

When contacted, the Army Public Relations Officer (APRO) Lt. Innocent Omale did not pick his calls.

A source at the Brigade, who pleaded anonymity, however said:”We are on operations in that general area due to the state of rising insecurity but not burning nor killing innocent souls please.
