Peter Obi, the Labour party presidential candidate, has denied referring to the just concluded presidential election as a “religious war.”
In an interview with Arise TV, the former Anambra State governor denied calling the presidential election a “religious war and the said clip was the handiwork of manipulators.”
He said he is not an ethnic/religious bigot, stressing that he sponsors many Muslim residents in Onitsha on pilgrimages to Mecca.
He said, “I did not say the election was a religious war because it is not. These are manipulators. I am not an ethnic/religious bigot. I celebrated Salah with Muslim residents in Onitsha as I have often done. I have sponsored many to Mecca. I am not the one with a same faith ticket.
“And let’s not forget, there was only one person that told his supporters to: ‘snatch it! Grab it and run with it’ during this election season.”
PEOPLES Gazette, a Nigerian online newspaper had reported that Peter Obi, in a phone call sought the support of David Oyedepo to secure Christians’ votes a day to the just concluded presidential election.
The Nigerian online newspaper suspended its reporter, Ayoola Babalola for one month without pay for violating the newspaper’s social media policy.
The management said that the decision was made after carefully reviewing the reporter’s responses to online trolls and concluded that he did not act with decorum and professionalism expected of the medium’s employees.
The statement added that the reporter would undergo counseling during the one-month suspension and will be reinstated afterwards.
