The German government has sounded the alarm over the escalating security situation in Nigeria, citing a surge in crimes, banditry, and kidnappings across the country.

During a visit to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annette Gunther, emphasized the critical importance of addressing security issues for socio-economic development and peace.

Gunther highlighted Germany’s deep involvement in supporting security sector reforms in Nigeria, noting significant financial investments in collaboration with the National Security Adviser. She expressed Germany’s commitment to assisting Nigeria in overcoming its security and power challenges, emphasizing the need for cooperation between the two nations, given their status as the largest economies and populations in their respective continents.

Referring to the Siemens energy project, Gunther hinted at Germany’s contribution to improving electricity infrastructure in Nigeria. She also mentioned Germany’s active engagement in various areas such as climate change and energy, underscoring the importance of bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit.
