The Nigerian Armed Forces have issued a warrant for Halilu Buzu, a national of the Republic of Niger, accusing him of instigating terror in Nigerian lands, with Zamfara being the primary target.

The proclamation was made public by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, focusing on military activities.

Buba revealed that the infamous alleged terrorist leader has established a base in the Subbubu Forest, located in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara. Buzu is also known to operate an illicit gold mining camp at Kawayi, situated in the Anka Local Government Area of the state, where he employs a significant number of young men.

Buba further identified Buzu as a leading cattle thief. He disclosed that Buzu’s faction had recently taken the lives of 19 villagers in Farar Kasa. “He is a High Value Target and we hereby declare him wanted,” Buba stated.

In addition, Buzu is a key arms dealer, trusted by arms traders who import weapons from Libya. “We have been tracking him, and each time we get close, he escapes across the border into the Republic of Niger for sanctuary. We are currently liaising with the authorities in Niger, as well as regional and international organizations, to assist in his capture and hold him accountable for his heinous acts,” Buba added.
