The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a nationwide protest over the arrest and detention of its member, Muhammad Aminu Adamu.

Mr Muhammad, a final year student of Federal University Dutse, was arrested last week by state agents believed to be men of the secret police outfit, SSS.

His arrest was ordered by wife of the president, Aisha Buhari over a tweet where he commented that the first lady had become rotund feeding fat on poor people’s money

He was however secretly arraigned in an Abuja high court on Wednesday where he was ordered remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre.

But NANS in a press release on December 1 decried Mr Muhammad’s ordeal.

“Sequel to the exhaustion of all options available to us before confrontation in seeking the freedom of one of us who was arrested questionably, tortured, molested, harassed and detained by the agents of the the the government, you are hereby notified of the decision of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students to proceed on a nationwide protest,” the statement signed by Usman Barambu, NANS president stated.

“We have consulted and consolidated and neither yielded desirable results in seeking the freedom of Aminu Adamu Muhammad, student of Federal University Dutse. Hence the protest shall commence as follows.”

NANS plans to commence its nationwide demonstration on Monday December 5, to demand unconditional release of Mr Muhammad.

Parts of the statement read “the protest is against the Inspector General of Police; Usman Alkali Baba and the Wife of the President; Aisha Muhammadu Buhari.”

NANS encourages its members nationwide to show their strength to fight against any form of injustice now as “an injury to one is an injury to all.”
