Three Nigerian students have won gold medals at the Grand Finale of the International STEM Olympiad held in Rome, Italy, delivering a major achievement for Nigeria on the global academic stage.

The students represented Nigeria in mathematics and science competitions at the event, which brought together participants from more than 150 countries at the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma.

The Nigerian team secured four gold medals in total. Don Anele Munachimso won two gold medals, including a world title in science, while Onyedikachi Egejurum emerged the world’s best in the primary mathematics category. Chimdiebube Onwubiko also claimed a gold medal.

The students’ participation was supported by education advocate Alex Onyia, who helped fund their travel, including registration, visas, flights and accommodation.

The victory highlights the growing recognition of Nigerian students in international science and mathematics competitions and has been celebrated as a proud moment for the country
