George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has emphasized the importance of perseverance in prayer for Nigerians amidst the prevailing economic challenges facing the nation.
Speaking on Sunday at the plenary session of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria in Abuja, Akume urged citizens not to lose hope, assuring them that the current difficulties are transient and will lead to a brighter future for the country.
During his address, Akume underscored the significance of the Lenten season as a time for Nigerians to earnestly seek divine intervention for the progress and tranquility of the nation.
Acknowledging the hardships caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, Akume highlighted the government’s efforts, led by President Bola Tinubu, to mitigate the impact on citizens. He also reiterated the administration’s commitment to revitalize the economy and propel the nation towards sustainable growth.
“The Lenten season provides an opportune moment for hosting this crucial gathering, coinciding with a period of deep introspection, prayer, fasting, and charitable deeds, amidst economic challenges in our country,” remarked Akume.
“While the current economic reforms may result in temporary hardships, they are driven by a steadfast dedication to Nigeria’s long-term prosperity and stability. Despite inheriting significant economic hurdles, this administration remains unwavering in its pursuit of a thriving, competitive, and healthy Nigeria,” he added.
Akume urged Nigerians to maintain unwavering faith in divine provision and protection, encouraging solidarity and support among citizens during these trying times.
“In the face of adversity, let us stand firm, trusting in God’s providence, and extending compassion and solidarity to one another. Though the road ahead may appear daunting, let us continue to uplift each other in faith and persevere in unceasing prayer,” he concluded.
