Nigeria’s 2024 budget allocates N201m for Aso villa zoo animals, while Tinubu, Shettima set to spend N660.5m on feeding

The 2024 budget proposal for Nigeria reveals that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are expected to spend N10.13 billion on meals and travel.

The total budget projection is N18.32 trillion with a deficit of N9.18 trillion. The capital expenditure is N8.7 trillion, and recurrent expenditure is N18.51 trillion.

Specifically, the budget allocates N660.5 million for refreshments, meals, and foodstuff for the offices of the President and Vice President. President Tinubu’s office gets N287.8 million, including N33.6 million for refreshments/meals and N254.2 million for foodstuff/catering materials supplies. Vice President Shettima’s office is allocated N372.6 million, with N35 million for refreshments/meals and N337.5 million for foodstuff/catering materials supplies.

Additionally, N201.4 million is allocated for the feeding of animals at Aso Rock’s zoo, termed “wildlife conservation.” The renovation of the President and Vice President’s quarters at the State House is budgeted at N800 million, with N500 million for Tinubu and N300 million for Shettima.

In the 2023 supplementary budget, N13.5 billion was approved for the renovation of the official residences of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. The breakdown includes N4 billion for the President’s residential quarters, N2.5 billion for Aguda House renovation, N4 billion for Dodan Barracks renovation, and N3 billion for the Vice President’s official quarters.

Furthermore, the 2024 budget proposal outlines N152.3 million and N67.3 million for honorarium and sitting allowance for the President and Vice President, respectively. Powering generators in the State House is budgeted at N37.9 million, and electricity charges are estimated at N260.8 million.
