The Imo State government has strongly refuted claims that the federal government is establishing an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.

Instead, the construction in Nsu is intended to serve as a skills acquisition facility aimed at benefiting residents of the South-East region, rather than housing displaced individuals from other parts of Nigeria.

Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, made this clarification in Owerri, stating that the misinformation is the work of elements attempting to sow discord between the Igbo community and other regions. According to Emelumba, a well-known propagandist, notorious for spreading seditious content, is behind the distorted version of information originally provided by the National Refugees Commission.

“This individual is infamous for spreading hate speech based on ignorance of public policy and national issues,” Emelumba stated, accusing the propagandist of deliberately twisting the commission’s news to stoke ethnic tensions. The commissioner further alleged that the recent disinformation campaign is aimed at provoking Igbos against Northerners and destabilizing the country under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
