Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru, has announced a Christmas bonus of N150,000 for each worker in the state civil service.

The bonus will be paid before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, according to a statement shared by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, on Facebook.

This gesture comes a year after Governor Nwifuru was one of the three state governors (along with Lagos and Rivers) who provided a N100,000 bonus to civil servants to ease the challenges posed by the fuel subsidy.

In addition, local government workers in the state’s 13 local council areas, who received a N50,000 bonus last Christmas, are now hoping that the council chairmen will follow suit by replicating the same bonus provided to state civil servants.

In November, during a Sunday Mass, Governor Nwifuru also approved an increase in the state’s minimum wage, raising it to N75,000 for civil servants, surpassing the federal government’s new wage of N70,000. This increase ensures that workers on grade level 2 will receive the full N75,000, while those on grade level 3 and above will see an additional N40,000 across the board. Governor Nwifuru emphasized that these decisions were made after careful consideration of the country’s economic situation and its impact on the workforce.
