The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has called on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to focus on projects that will accelerate development in the region.

During a meeting with Commission members in his office, Governor Nwifuru emphasized the importance of the Commission’s establishment by the Federal Government, describing it as a fulfillment of the aspirations of the region’s leaders and people.

He urged the Commission members to avoid frivolous activities and work diligently to justify the trust placed in them by the people. “Development of the South East is in your hands. Don’t look at the Governors because we have our individual and State interests. Look beyond where you are coming from and try to leave legacies that will speak volumes of who you are,” he stated.

Governor Nwifuru expressed confidence in the appointed members of the Commission and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its establishment. He also called on Governors from the region to create an enabling environment and collaborate closely with the Commission to foster development.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the Commission, Hon. Mark Okoye, represented by the Executive Director of Commerce and Industrial Development, Sen. Anthony Agbo, highlighted the Commission’s efforts to foster partnerships among South East States. The aim is to harmonize policies, pool resources, and build a solid asset base for the Commission. “SEDC has outlined a set of strategic objectives, including collaborating with states to achieve a $200 billion economy by 2025, catalyzing transformative projects in infrastructure, energy, technology, and ease of doing business,” he said.

The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Emeka Wogu, assured that the Commission would bridge the significant development gap and position the region for sustainable progress.
