Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a corps member serving in Lagos State, has sounded the alarm after allegedly receiving threatening messages from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) officials.

Her troubles stem from a bold TikTok video, posted under the username @talktoraye, where she labeled President Bola Tinubu a “terrible president” while decrying Nigeria’s deepening economic struggles.

In the widely shared clip, Rita vented her frustration over the country’s spiraling cost of living, questioning the government’s handling of rampant inflation. She also highlighted the financial strain of the NYSC program, noting that her allowance falls far short of covering her mounting expenses. “If more Nigerians speak out about what we’re facing, maybe the government will act,” she said. “To our president, I don’t know if there’s ever been a worse one, but you are truly terrible.”

Rita went on to illustrate the economic crisis with examples, pointing to the shocking price of a crate of eggs—now N6,500, a sharp increase from before—along with skyrocketing utility bills and transport costs, which she called unsustainable for corps members like herself.

After the video gained traction online, Rita alleged that NYSC officials reached out, pressuring her to remove it. In a follow-up post, she shared a recording of one such call, where an official reportedly berated her, saying, “Are you normal? Shut up and take down that video you posted.”

As of this report, the NYSC has not issued an official response to the incident, leaving the situation unresolved.
