A somber gathering took place in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, as Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo laid his father, Late Pa Simeon Soludo, to rest.
The burial ceremony, held on Saturday, commenced with a solemn mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Umueze Isuofia and drew the presence of distinguished personalities from diverse spheres of life.
Among the notable attendees were the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi; Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Kashim Shettima; Governors Alex Otti of Abia State, Peter Mba of Enugu State, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.
The event also saw the participation of ministers, senators, members of the House of Representatives, members of the Anambra State Executive Council, state legislators, bishops, priests, professionals, captains of industry, and many others.
During the burial mass, His Eminence Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke, the Catholic Bishop of Ekwuluobia Diocese, delivered a heartfelt homily, consoling the bereaved family. He eulogized the late Pa Soludo, highlighting his remarkable contributions to family, community, and society at large. The bishop also expounded on the enduring legacy left by the deceased, emphasizing his multifaceted impact on those around him.
In a brief address, Governor Soludo expressed deep gratitude to the clergy members present, acknowledging their invaluable support, guidance, and comforting spiritual presence. He extended heartfelt thanks to all attendees, appreciating their condolences, prayers, and various forms of support during this challenging time of grief. The governor reflected on his father’s well-lived life, expressing confidence that Pa Soludo’s memory will endure in their hearts.
Communities from various parts of Anambra State, including Ebenator Nnewi South, as well as institutions within the state, joined in mourning and expressing solidarity with the governor and his family.
It’s worth noting that Pa Soludo, widely known as Ichie Akụkananwa 1, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the age of 92. He is survived by seven sons, eight daughters-in-law, twenty-two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
