The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed strong disapproval of the Federal Government’s consideration to add new aircraft to the existing Presidential fleet.

This decision comes after the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence recommended the purchase of new planes for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

In a statement on his verified social media handle on Monday, Obi termed the move as “unacceptable” and “insensitive” to the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. He lamented that it is unfortunate that the government is prioritizing luxury expenses while the country struggles with economic challenges.

“It is unacceptable that the government is considering purchasing new presidential jets when Nigerians are wallowing in poverty,” Obi said. “This is a clear show of insensitivity to the suffering of the Nigerian people.”

Obi’s criticism comes as the country grapples with economic woes and the government’s decision to sell three planes from the Presidential Air Fleet earlier this year. His remarks highlight the stark contrast between the government’s priorities and the economic struggles faced by the majority of Nigerians.
