The former governor of Rivers State and one-time presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Peter Odili, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for preventing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, from turning the state into a private estate.

Odili revealed that Governor Fubara demonstrated remarkable fortitude in confronting Wike’s attempt to capture Rivers State through an unnecessary political war.

Speaking at a Christmas ballad organized in honor of Governor Fubara and his family, Dr. Odili explained that his family decided to host the event to appreciate the governor’s fortitude and leadership qualities. He noted that it has been over 12 months since the fierce political battle began on October 25, 2023, and praised Fubara for emancipating Rivers people and steadying governance.

In response, Governor Fubara credited God as the Ultimate Liberator of the state and its people, ensuring triumph over the political crisis. He emphasized that the support from Rivers people strengthened him and transformed the crisis into a necessary enabler in governance. Fubara assured that his administration is determined to make every succeeding year better, with remarkable progress and a brighter future for Rivers people.

Governor Fubara also vowed to continue doing what is right and expressed gratitude to the true leaders and well-meaning people of Rivers State for standing on the right side of history despite pressures to surrender to tyranny and oppression.

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, and Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, also spoke at the event, highlighting the governor’s leadership during the crisis. Former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, praised Fubara for blending traits of Dr. Odili’s leadership style and steering the course of governance successfully.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), thanked the Odilis for organizing the family reunion and lauded Governor Fubara and his family for their humility and honor in attending the event.
