Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide responded to Chief Bode George’s comments on the demolition of Igbo-owned properties in Lagos, describing them as ‘misdirected.’ Chief George had suggested that the Igbo focus on developing their own region instead of Lagos.
Ohanaeze’s President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, had defended the Igbo, stating that their properties in Lagos were lawfully acquired.
Dr. Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, supported Iwuanyanwu’s stance, emphasizing that Igbo properties in Lagos were legally obtained.
He criticized Chief Bode George’s remarks, calling them unstatesmanlike, bigoted, narrow-thinking, and self-serving. Ogbonnia questioned George’s support for the Lagos State government’s policies and accused him of selective vocalization on issues affecting the Igbo community.
The statement concluded by asserting that the Igbo people will remain broad-minded, hardworking, law-abiding, forward-looking, dynamic, and courageous in the face of challenges.
