In a recent press interview, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole launched a scathing critique of Governor Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy Obaseki, accusing them of lacking affection for children.

The comments were aired by Television Continental (TVC) on its X handle over the weekend.

Oshiomhole’s remarks came in response to an alleged comment from Betsy Obaseki, who reportedly claimed that only APC governorship candidate Monday Okpebholo does not have a wife among the contenders. Oshiomhole seized the opportunity to highlight that the Obasekis have remained childless since their marriage and have not chosen to adopt any children.

“I was taken aback when Mrs. Obaseki said that our candidate has no wife. Here is a woman who, along with her husband, has no children. They are childless and have even refused to adopt,” Oshiomhole asserted.

He continued, “It’s not about whether or not you have children, but those who truly love children often adopt from orphanages. They haven’t done so, despite being in their 60s. Whether their marriage is a contractual arrangement or something else, the fact remains—they have no children.”

Oshiomhole contrasted this with APC candidate Okpebholo, whose family he praised for their involvement in the campaign. He highlighted that Okpebholo’s children are well-educated, with the eldest being a lawyer and the second a medical doctor, and noted their active participation in campaign events across the state.

“Okpebholo’s family is actively involved in the campaign, and their children’s educational achievements have been showcased on live television. They are a testament to the candidate’s commitment to family values,” Oshiomhole concluded.
